Ghasiram: Hindi comic book

Image
Ghasiram is a Hindi comic book which I created in my school days. that was the period, when comics were really popular among kids and I always wished to be a cartoonist or say a comics creator. I used to read a lot of Hindi Comics which used to get published from Delhi and Mumbai. Names like Diamond comics , Manoj comics and Raj comics were craze in small towns. then there were Amar Chitra Katha , Indrajaal comics and Tinkle magazine. there was a small comics store called 'Vijay Book Centre' in my town. He used to rent out comics and also had a reading bunker. often, in summers he used get a lot of stock of comics from Mayapuri Delhi. this stock had a lot of Hindi translation of American and European comics. that's when I got introduced to characters like Asterix, Lucky Luke, Tintin, Axa, Laurel and Hardy . When, I got little more mature, I started enjoying foreign syndicated comic strips in the English newspapers. It had a subtle humor sense and had a lot of vis...

Childhood favorite TINKLE magazine's website

Image
I really appreciate how Mr. Anant Pai is moving with times. Amar Chitra Katha was a bench mark in its own time period and still is a golden collection of best of illustrated Indian Mythology and history. Anant Pai’s contribution in literature & other material for children doesn’t end with ACK but Tinkle magazine set a standard for others, how the print medium could give proper treatment to kids segment. Tinkle gave us characters like Supandi, Shikari Shambhu and kaliya kauwa apart from regular panchtantra and jatakkatha stories. There were facts and GK made interesting with appropriate illustrations. Now, TINKLE is online. They have games, comics and contests. Also a show case of children’s drawings greeting cards etc. Good going lets all support the good cause. http://www.tinkleonline.com/registration/index.php

Amar Chitra Katha online

Image
I think most of kids of my generation grew up reading comics and Amar Chitra Katha was the one which all parents used to buy and give to kids with pleasure. Other comics like Indrajaal, Manoj and Raj were rented out and read happily. Amar Chitra Katha has such an impact on my mind that whenever we used to hear mythological stories visuals from Amar Chitra Katha used to come. So it is true that Amar Chitra Katha has shaped the visual language for our generation. Earlier it did not have online presence, now it’s keeping it with time so check out this link: http://www.ack-media.com/india/index.php
