Voting India

There has been a huge media awareness campaign in this Loksabha Election. Times of India was extensively taking the cause forward so was TV media and Bollywood. there were web pop ups and viral films. Delhi Government had a public print campaign running in all the news papers. FM radios were making spoofs and adding spice in this election.
Even after such a great media buzz voting percentage has been average. 3 phases of voting have gone and the 4th and last one is going to take place on this month 13th.
I have seen many advertisements in today's newspaper some stores are giving discounts to the people who voted, it is a welcome gesture.
Even after so much of hype n cut offs given to masses why we don't have 90-100% voting?

I was having a casual discussion in this regard with my friend Sharad. We were just thinking why after all this we didn't vote in great numbers? may be we have a very rigid and medieval way of casting vote. it is done in liner fashion. As is the tendency we want to avoid queuing up and frisking. The Indian election has a violence phobia attached to it which is the popular notion and somewhat true as well.
Now, we have technology which allows us to be non-liner. Indian Railway is using it efficiently be it web or mobile, it is using it all.
Our election commission should also think in this regard. We should have an authentication number/code on the voting ID card which could be used to log in online (where you can view profiles of the candidates from your constituency just like face book) or vote from your mobile phone. I know Internet use in India is still limited to a very small group but mobile phone have reached to suburbans, towns and villages as well.
We must eliminate the need to be physical present and geographical aligned to cast a vote.
your opinion= is your vote.
so what matters is your opinion whether it is given in a polling booth or through internet/mobile.
I am , if have such system functioning we will see a great number of people taking part in election. It will be easy for all the lazy bums who have opinion but no motivation to walk, face the sun, get frisked and stand in a Que.
